In Ballia district, law enforcement from the Bariyara and Sikanderpur police stations apprehended two criminals, including a murder suspect, during two distinct encounters. This information was shared by police officials on Thursday.
Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh reported that the first encounter took place late Wednesday night around 1 AM in Bariyara. During a routine check on the Chanddiar Jaiprakash Nagar road, officers signaled a motorcyclist to stop, but the rider accelerated instead.
The police pursued the motorcycle and managed to corner it, but the rider fired at them with the intent to kill, prompting the police to return fire. Singh noted that the motorcyclist sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg during the exchange.
The motorcyclist was identified as Dharmendra Yadav, a 28-year-old resident of Sonbarsa village in the Bariyara police jurisdiction. He was wanted in connection with a murder case filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code on October 14 and was allegedly attempting to flee to Bihar.
The second encounter occurred early Thursday around 4:30 AM in Sikanderpur when police stopped another motorcycle near the Kharid River road.
The rider attempted to escape but lost control and fell. When surrounded by police, he fired at the officers, resulting in a gunshot wound to his right leg. Singh confirmed that the individual was identified as Shamim Qureshi, also known as Sonu, a 23-year-old from Bharatpur village in the Sukhpura police area.
Singh added that Shamim has multiple cases registered against him at the Sikanderpur police station. Authorities recovered a country-made pistol and cartridges from his possession. Both suspects have been taken into custody and are receiving medical treatment.
